The care of seniors and people with disabilities in Poland is supported by various programs and financial benefits. In this article, we will look at the most important forms of support available to seniors and people with disabilities.
The social pension is available to adults who are completely unable to work due to a disability that occurred before the age of 18 or during their studies (up to the age of 25). Since March 1, 2023, the amount of the social pension is PLN 1,588.44 gross per month.
The care allowance is available to disabled persons (children up to 16 years old and adults with a significant disability certificate). The current amount of the care allowance is PLN 215.84 per month. This support is intended to cover part of the costs associated with care and assistance.
The caregiving benefit is available to persons who give up work to care for a disabled family member. As of January 1, 2024, the amount of the caregiving benefit is PLN 2,458 per month. This financial support aims to compensate for the lost income of the caregiver.
The special care allowance is granted to persons who have to give up employment due to the necessity of caring for a disabled family member. The amount of the special care allowance is PLN 620 per month.
Commonly known as “500 Plus for Disabled People,” this allowance is available to persons who have a certificate of inability to live independently and meet the income criteria. The maximum amount of the allowance is PLN 500 per month. The income criterion for 2023 is PLN 2,126.51 gross per month.
The care supplement is available to persons over 75 years of age and persons who are completely unable to work and live independently. The amount of the supplement is PLN 256.44 per month. This support is intended to cover additional costs associated with the care of seniors or disabled persons.
Applications for the individual benefits can be submitted at the branches of the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), via the Electronic Services Platform (PUE ZUS), or by post. It is important to attach all required documents to the application, such as the disability certificate or documents confirming income.
Financial support for seniors and people with disabilities in Poland is diverse and includes several forms of benefits. From the social pension, through care allowances, to benefits for caregivers – everyone can find suitable support tailored to their life situation.
